SpadXTech Awarded Competitive Grant from the National Science Foundation

Small Business Innovation Research Program Provides Seed Funding for R&D

Worcester, MA, September 8th, 2023– SpadXTech has been awardeda National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)grantfor $1,000,000 to conduct research and development (R&D) work on replacing plastics with high-performance, environmentally friendly materials composed of cellulose secreted by bacteria created with synthetic biology.

SpadXTech’s materials degrade in the environment and thus will reduce the problem of plastic waste. Production of the materials is environmentally benign and can actually sequester carbon dioxide. This technology and materials will impact the textiles, automobile, construction, and packaging industries.

“This funding is critical for SpadXTech to demonstrate our process at scale and start generating revenue. We cannot wait to see what other opportunities this funding will open up for us.” said González (Founder and CEO of SpadXTech).
